Workers' FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- What is the difference between the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) and AultComp Managed Care Organization (AultComp MCO)?
- The BWC makes decisions regarding claim allowance and issues benefits payments. AultComp MCO coordinates medical care and makes treatment decisions.
- How long does it take to find out if my claim is allowed?
- A claim number is provided within 24 hours of filing a claim; however, that does not mean your claim is allowed. The BWC and MCO begin to gather information and all documentation received by the MCO and the BWC are combined. The BWC uses the shared information to investigate the claim, and will make the determination to allow or to deny the claim within 28 days.
- Who pays my lost wages?
- The BWC determines eligibility and payment of compensation benefits.
- Can I go to any doctor?
- You have the right to be treated by the doctor of your choice as long as the doctor is a BWC certified provider. (If you don’t know if your doctor is a certified provider, you can reference www.bwc.ohio.gov for a complete list.)
- What should I do if I get a bill?
- Verify that the bill is for the work-related injury. If it is, call the provider, give them your claim number and ask that they send the bill to: AultComp MCO - PO BOX 36149 Canton, Ohio 44735-6149.
- I have a prescription to be filled for my work related injury. How do I do this?
- Pharmacists can submit most drug bills directly to BWC at the point of service through BWC’s pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), Catamaran. As soon as an injury occurs, even before BWC assigns a claim number, the pharmacist can submit a drug bill to BWC. To contact Catamaran call 1-800-644-6292 and follow the prompts.
